Here at Curious Newt we take great pride in the service and products we provide. We want you to be really happy with anything we make for you.

Below you will find some information about embroidery that we hope will help you decide whether this is best suited to your needs.

MINIMUM ORDER QUANTITY
There isn't a minimum order quantity for embroidery, however, if this is the first item we have embroidered for you there may be some set up costs.

SET UP COSTS
For every new image, logo or design, we need to create an embroidery file in a format (.DST) that is used by embroidery machines. There is a cost associated with this, typically £25 + VAT, but once we have the file it can be used for any future orders.

RECOMMENDED SIZE
Mostly embroidery is used for chest logos and small arm designs, occasionally it is used for larger emblems, e.g. on aprons, or for larger text areas across the back of a garment. It's also great for adding names and short text phrases. The maximum area normally embroidered is 10cm x 10cm. If you have a design that is larger than this, please talk to us about print options as well, in order to get the best result for you.

SMALL TEXT
Small text does not come out well in embroidery and can just become illegible. If your logo or design has a tag line or sub-description we will work with you to ensure it is either large enough to read or decide whether if it is crucial to your design.

STITCH COUNT
Stitch count is the key determinant for the price of your embroidery: the more stitches, the longer it takes to make and the higher the price. If your logo or design has a background that is filled in or you have a large, full colour design, it is likely to have a much higher stitch count and become more costly as a result.

FABRIC WEIGHT
Embroidery works best on slightly thicker or stiffer cloth, so while you can embroider on most garment types, we will recommend slightly heavier weight fabrics to get the best result. Light fabrics can result in the stitching pulling at the material and causing small holes, e.g. lightweight t-shirts, running tops and so on.

Even on heavier materials we will reinforce the stitching by adding a backing cloth to help you get the best wear out of your embroidered garment.

THREAD COLOURS
Although there is a wide variety of thread colours available, there are limitations. We can't match threads to Pantone colour references for this reason, although we will make the best visual match that we can.

If you do want exact Pantone matches or have a lot of colours, you may find our printing methods are better suited to your requirements.
